We’re proud to support Suffolk Action Week, taking place from Monday 30th September to Sunday 6th October.
The county-wide campaign, in which we join Community Action Suffolk, Suffolk Libraries, The East of England Co-operative and Suffolk Association of Local Councils (SALC), will spearhead a week of action and information which showcases the wide variety of roles available to volunteers of all ages.
Latest national research suggests 22% of the population take part in volunteering at least once a month, and organisers of Suffolk Action Week have aspirations of making our county a shining example to the rest of the UK of a community that steps up to change local lives.
The programme of events is being delivered in partnership with charities such as Family First, West Suffolk Sight, Emmaus, Volunteering Matters, Lighthouse Women’s Aid, Suffolk Family Carers and Age UK Suffolk.
Volunteers keep our county moving, it’s as simple as that. They provide every kind of vital support that could possibly be imagined and are the key resource that powers over 5,000 Suffolk charities and community groups. Suffolk Action Week is about letting people know what a great time you can have being a volunteer and how much Suffolk needs you to step up and get involved. It’s brilliant and important to be working in partnership with other voluntary sector organisations to bring this campaign to life.
As our contribution to Suffolk Action Week, Suffolk Community Foundation spoke to Suffolk’s voluntary sector leaders, and asked them a series of questions about the importance of volunteering. Their responses have been edited into 5 short films which will be shared across our social media channels each day of the campaign.
In the first film we asked, ‘How does your voluntary sector organisation support people in Suffolk?’ 💜
In this film we asked, ‘How important are volunteers to the work that you do?’ 💜
In our third film we asked, ‘If all of your volunteers were standing in front of you right now, what would you say to them?’ 💜
In this film we asked, ‘Why does Suffolk need more volunteers?’ 💜
In our final film we asked, ‘What would you say to anyone who is thinking about becoming a volunteer?’ 💜
