As we approach the summer holidays, tackling holiday hunger becomes increasingly important. We are proud to be working with The Pink Orange on a new initiative that is offering a unique service for Suffolk. Quite simply, they pack and distribute free ingredient kits over the summer holidays to households that would normally receive free school meals in term time.
Their free ingredient kits provide you with all of the items needed to prepare two household meals from scratch each week throughout this year’s summer holiday. Each kit provides the ingredients for 2 meals for a household to cook together. It also provides weekly menus with recipe cards and video tutorials, meaning that no matter your skill in the kitchen, you’ll be able to create healthy, nutritious and filling meals for your family.
Registration is free and can be done via the Pink Orange website, phone or text message.

The service is delivered by Access Community Trust and supported by Suffolk Community Foundation.
The service went live on Monday 20th July and already has over 1400 households registered, which means in week one we have already fed 2771 children and young people. Despite the pandemic and its continuing legacy Access continues to identify hidden needs and find creative solutions. I am incredibly proud of my staff teams who have embraced this new venture with enthusiasm and the feedback we are getting from families has shown how transformational such simple projects can be.
