The Rebuilding Local Lives appeal, backed by superstar Ed Sheeran, has now raised more than £3M, awarded 560 grants and given over 300,000 individual offers of support to those in need in Suffolk.

The news is revealed on the anniversary of the first national lockdown – a landmark moment which triggered the start of an extraordinary community response in Suffolk to support those who needed help.

Suffolk Community Foundation launched the Suffolk Coronavirus Community Fund – with the Rebuilding Local Lives Appeal, kick-started by a generous donation by Suffolk star Ed and supported by the East Anglian Daily Times.

Suffolk has really shown in so many ways how it cares for people in need. We should take heart from the actions that local volunteers have taken and from the huge generosity that so many have demonstrated by giving to the appeal and the central emergency fund. Together, #TeamSuffolk continues to provide the vital resources and funding that our local voluntary sector needs so much. We thank everyone for everything they are doing as we all seek to rebuild local lives.

Chief Executive , Suffolk Community Foundation

The fund has demonstrated the fantastic power of partnership in Suffolk by already giving over 300,000 direct offers of support to those in need in Suffolk  but we remain at the bottom of the mountain when it comes to building individual lives and local communities back up and out of the pandemic. We absolutely need #TeamSuffolk to keep working together and to keep giving to the fund.

Tim Holder

Head of Public Affairs, Suffolk Community Foundation

The crisis has brought out the best in our communities with countless acts of heroic volunteering and of course immense generosity in giving to the fund. We must thank everyone for continuing to do all they can and to our hard working teams in the media across the county, the East Anglian Daily Times, BBC Radio Suffolk and so many other more local publications. Their ability to spreading the word across the entire county has played such an important part in this success story.

Chairman, Suffolk Community Foundation

We have proved that we can manage over this last year, we have shown that wonderful things can happen. But now we have to all keep going and prove that we can do the rebuild part too. It’s going to need another amazing effort from everyone across the county, but I know that we WILL come back even stronger as we all continue to work together.
Bridget McIntyre

High Sheriff of Suffolk

Existing organisations quickly mobilising to work from home to continue providing services. So many people gave generously or volunteered to help for the first time. Simply checked in on their neighbours to make sure they were ok made a huge difference; human kindness across the county has been key to successfully keeping people safe and well. I have never been more proud to be part of our community in Suffolk.
Christine Abraham

Chief Executive, Community Action Suffolk

It has been a quite extraordinary time with exceptional challenges facing our communities. However, despite the uncertainty and the sadness, we have witnessed wonderful acts of kindness right across Suffolk and superb support for those in need from our amazing voluntary sector. Suffolk Community Foundation gave this work a rock-solid base of funding and managed to raise money and distribute it very quickly to the front line. I know that people will look back and see how so many of us in Suffolk have been affected in so many different ways, but with the continued help from so many brilliant people there is  real ray of light shining towards the future. Suffolk is a wonderfully kind county, with wonderfully good people and we always rise to a challenge.

Lady Clare Euston

Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk
