Living Paintings Trust – Case Study

Living Paintings Trust are a national charity who design, create and publish tactile and audio books for blind and partially sighted people.

During this time, Living Paintings aims to relieve the social and educational isolation of blind and partially sighted people of all ages by running a free of charge postal library service of Touch to See books. These books cover a wide range of topics for all age groups and feature raised, tactile imagery and immersive audio recordings to bring our visual world to life.  They have 157 beneficiaries across the county, and with the help of the grant received they can now continue to provide thier Touch to See books to their beneficiaries throughout the Coronavirus crisis and beyond.  They have a strong army of volunteers who work tirelessly to help produce, maintain and dispatch the books through the free library service but with many of them being elderly and in isolation themselves, this has meant additional costs have been incurred by the charity and without the support of the grant, they could not have continued to provide this service.  The funding has also helped the charity to be able to introduce their new ‘Relax & Chat’ service for their adult library members.  Any adult library member feeling a lonely during this time can take advantage of this new service.  They can arrange a weekly telephone call with one of our volunteers or staff members to enjoy a light-hearted chit-chat.

I just wanted to drop you a quick email to thank you personally for your help with our application.  Andrea called me yesterday to tell me the good news which is amazing and really lifted my spirits. The amount of books going out to our beneficiaries is quite overwhelming to see. This grant makes ALL the difference.
