The Sizewell C Community Fund

The Sizewell C Community Fund is a pot of up to £23m that will be directed into the East Suffolk Council area over the next decade. This includes Lowestoft, Leiston and Saxmundham.

Around £2m will be made available each year, with grants awarded to projects which will minimise the impact of Sizewell C construction work and improve environmental, social and economic wellbeing. Bids will also be invited from initiatives which will generate new prospects for education and employment.

This is an exciting opportunity which comes at a time when rising demand and reductions in central funding are placing charities and community groups under ever increasing pressure. The money therefore has the potential to make a real and lasting difference.

Applying for funding

We are currently developing the grants criteria and putting an application process in place which will make it as easy as possible for groups to bid for money. A dedicated email address for all enquiries about the fund has also been launched, which is available at [email protected]

We are also setting up an awards panel to decide on applications, which will include representatives from Suffolk Community Foundation, Suffolk County Council, East Suffolk Council and Sizewell C, as well as four independent members.

The panel will be chaired by Helen Taylor, who is a trustee with Suffolk Community Foundation and has extensive experience in the charity, community development, governance and health sectors.

Joining the panel

We are now in the process of appointing the final two independent posts. One will have a deep connection with Leiston, while the second will have extensive links to East Suffolk. They will use their experience and knowledge to help us ensure the grants reach the right places and will make the biggest difference to the community.

The successful applicants will be chosen by the panel’s core members when they meet for the first time later in the spring. We will then be publicise the grants criteria and application process and begin welcoming bids for funding. We hope to start awarding money in the summer.
