It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we confirm that Sir David Rowland, our former Trustee, has passed away.
Sir David was an influential and much respected Trustee serving the Foundation between 25th January 2009 and 12th January 2017. Through his guidance, wisdom and charm, he was instrumental in shaping Suffolk Community Foundation during its formative years. With an eye for detail, he never lost sight of our mission to help those in most need right across our county.
As Chairman of Lloyd’s between 1993 and 1997, he played a critical role in safeguarding the future of the Lloyd’s market through perhaps its most difficult period. Under his leadership, Lloyd’s was able to confront and address the losses it was facing and put in place many of the necessary structural changes that still underpin the market, ensuring it remained on a firm footing.
Sir David was awarded a Gold Medal for Services to Lloyd’s in 1996. The medal has been awarded just 17 times since it was first introduced in 1919.
Our thoughts are with David’s family, friends and colleagues.
