Individual or family fund
For many people, setting up their own charitable trust is the most obvious route to take when establishing a substantial fund for future philanthropy. However, it’s not always as easy or as flexible as you may think.
Suffolk Community Foundation has the ability to establish a personal fund where the administrative burden and legal compliance is managed by us. However, importantly, you can remain as closely involved in the application of your money as you wish. You can make tax efficient gifts to your fund at any time, and we’ll work with you to understand what you want to achieve and how to reach the causes you care about.
You, and your family and friends, can be involved in making decisions about how income from your fund is distributed. Your gifts can be allocated to endowment building or flow-through grant-making, or a mix of both.
The aims of the fund remain flexible, and unlike those of traditional trusts and foundations, can be adjusted as time goes on to provide relevant support to existing and future needs.
My aim is to gradually build the fund up slowly and continue to work with the team. It’s a movable feast, what we are doing. Everything changes. One of the comforting things about the Foundation, is that I know that if I was to stop my input, the team there know me and be able to carry on the ethos of what I was wanting. In years to come they will also keep it relevant to the need of the moment. That’s why I feel happy to be part of the team.
