From 1st August, scarecrows will be displayed in front gardens and front windows of Bildeston for everyone to see, as part of the village’s Scarecrow Competition. Don’t forget to head to Market Square tomorrow too, where you’ll find Aunt Sally and Worzel Gummidge selling raffle tickets – prizes of which include a meal for two at the Bildeston Crown and £100 in Amazon vouchers – and scarecrow maps, so you know where to spot the wonderful creations that will be dotted around the village.
On Saturday 8th August, BBC Radio Suffolk’s Mark Murphy will be coming to Bildeston to judge the scarecrows and announce the winners and runners up, who will receive a cash prize.
There will be an entry fee of £2.50 for each scarecrow, and all of the entry money raised will very kindly go to Suffolk Community Foundation. An impressive £800 has been raised so far, to help support vulnerable people in our county.

After having to cancel many events this year, we are hoping our Scarecrow Competition will bring some fun, excitement, smiles and happiness to Bildeston. We are happy to be raising money for Suffolk Community Foundation, as so many of our charities in Suffolk have suffered financially due to covid-19, so it’s so important to support this good cause.
We hope that this may have inspired you to make a donation to the fund, or create a fundraising challenge of your own…
