Connecting causes that matter with people who care

We provide grants to help charities and community organisations who are supporting local people facing disadvantage, to improve their lives.

We do this by working with individuals, families, businesses, professional advisors, and charitable trusts, helping them to fund local groups that are tackling the issues they care about most.

Last week, Jess and Evie (who spent a weekl with us on work experience) visited the @brsnewmarket in Newmarket.

The British Racing School and its Pony Academy (previously funded by @suffolk_giving) enhances social mobility for young people aged 8 to 25 by harnessing their interest in horses to provide access to education, training, and employment opportunities that may have previously seemed out of reach.

Each year, it supports approximately 500 children and young people and 100% of the Foundation Course students go on to secure employment within horse racing yards. It was such an inspiring morning - spending time with the horses, meeting some of the students and hearing about the incredible impact the school has on so many young lives.

Thank you for showing us around!

Suffolk Community Foundation and @sizewellc are delighted to announce that @greenlighttrust has been awarded £14,755 in the latest round of funding.

Helena Harris, Head of Operations said: “We are really pleased to receive funding from the Sizewell C Community Fund and are excited about our new partnership with Wardens Trust. This funding will enable us to deliver nature-based activities for local people within a beautiful space at Wardens Trust.

People will be able to come together in a calm and inspiring environment, engage in well-being and wood-crafting activities and have lunch around a campfire, which will be specially built. They will also be able to learn more about Wardens Trust and volunteering opportunities should they wish to do so.”

The Sizewell C Community Fund will provide up to £23m to local charities, community groups and organisations which are delivering projects that benefit communities located closest to, and most impacted by, Sizewell C development activity site.

Nicki visited Hope for Tomorrow Mobile Cancer Unit in Sudbury recently.

@hopefortomorrowcharity is a charity that supports cancer patients by providing mobile cancer care units to NHS Trusts across England. Founded in 2003 by Christine Mills in memory of her husband, the charity aims to reduce the stress of long-distance travel for treatment. The mobile units bring chemotherapy closer to patients, visiting community locations like health centres and supermarkets. This helps reduce travel time, costs, and waiting, while offering care in a more comfortable setting. With 13 units operating in 9 counties, the charity supported nearly 30,000 treatments in 2022/23.

The charity received funding from our Suffolk Giving Fund, a private fund and the Miller Fund last year. The unit visits Sudbury and Newmarket every week. Nicki was very impressed with the set up and the collaboration between the NHS (which pays for staff and treatment costs) and the charity which pays for the vehicle and all the running costs.

Thank you @lowestofttowncouncil for hosting the principal celebrations for this year's Suffolk Day. What a glorious morning it was! The proclamation was beautifully read by students from East Point Academy, The Benjamin Britten Academy and @ormistondenes and we all enjoyed music from the Suffolk Chamber Orchestra.

The Suffolk Medal was also given out to five worthy recipients by our Lord Lieutenant, Clare, Countess of Euston. Citations were read by Suffolk High Sheriff Gulshan Kayembe DL.

If you are a resident of Suffolk, you can nominate someone for a Suffolk Medal. Please visit www.thesuffolkmedal.org.uk for more information.
